Presentation

Sterile clear eye gel containing 3.3 mg gentamicin (as gentamicin sulphate Ph Eur) per gram of gel.

It also contains benzalkonium chloride Ph Eur 0.1 mg/g as antimicrobial preservative, and hypromellose Ph Eur.

Uses

Clinagel® Vet is an eye gel indicated for the treatment of infections of the external structures of the eyes and the eyelids and for the treatment of superficial eye infections caused by bacteria which are sensitive to gentamicin in dogs and cats.

These infections include

Bacterial conjunctivitis, keratitis, bacterial kerato-conjunctivitis, ulcers and abscesses of the cornea, blepharitis and blepharo-conjunctivitis, acute meibomitis and dacryocystitis. Infectious complications caused by corneal or conjunctival foreign bodies, and infections associated with physical or chemical trauma.

Dosage and administration

Topical administration in the eye, avoiding contact between the tube and the eye. Administer in small amounts (~ 1 cm strip) two or three times a day in the conjunctival sac of the lower eye lid. The duration of the treatment is one to several weeks, depending on the nature and the severity of the infection. For use under veterinary supervision only. Long term topical treatment can cause emergence of resistance and re-examination should be performed at intervals.

Instructions for use

1. When using the product for the first time unscrew the complete cap

2. Remove the lowest ring from the cap and discard

3. Replace the remainder of the cap which will pierce the seal at the top of the tube

4. The tube is now ready for use

5. Before each eye treatment remove only the upper part of the cap

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

Hypersensitivity to any of the components. Local intolerance has not been reported. However, benzalkonium chloride can cause allergic reactions. In the case of allergic reaction it is recommended to stop treatment immediately. As is the case for other antimicrobial agents, long term topical treatment can cause overgrowth of non-sensitive organisms such as fungi. Avoid contact between the tube and the eye. Do not use concurrently with other antimicrobial ophthalmic products. Gentamicin is incompatible with erythromycin, chloramphenicol, sodium sulfadiazine, sodium carbonate, furosemide and penicilins. For use under veterinary supervision only. In cases of long-term treatment, re-examination should be performed at intervals.

Pharmaceutical precautions

Store below 25°C.

Any contents remaining one month after the date on which the container was first opened should be discarded. Care should be taken to avoid contamination of the contents during use. Replace cap between applications.

Any unused product or waste material should be disposed in accordance with national requirements.
