Presentation
A bright yellow, water-soluble crystalline powder containing 200 grammes Aureomycin™ chlortetracycline hydrochloride per kilogramme on a dextrose carrier.
Uses
Chlortetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Aurofac 200 MA is recommended for oral administration to calves for the treatment of respiratory infections caused by chlortetracycline sensitive organisms.
Dosage and administration
For oral administration as a soluble powder to be given in dried milk or milk replacer, liquid milk or reconstituted milk, or finally as a drench.
The therapeutic dosage of chlortetracycline for calves is 10-20 mg/kg bodyweight daily.
For individual treatment administer 3 grammes Aurofac 200 MA per 45 kilogramme calf daily. One level 5ml teaspoonful contains approximately 3g of Aurofac 200 MA (600mg chlortetracycline).
For group treatment supply milk replacer powder into which Aurofac 200 MA has been mixed at a rate of 7 kilogrammes per tonne to give 1300mg chlortetracycline per kg of milk replacer powder.
Treatment should be continued for a period of five to seven days or until signs of disease are no longer apparent.
Contra-indications, warnings, etc

Use in adult ruminants is not recommended.
The application of some sugar-based soluble antibiotics may very infrequently be associated with microbial overgrowth in drinking water systems and the use of biocides may be indicated before and after medication.
Withdrawal Statement
Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during treatment. Animals may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 15 days from the end of treatment.
Pharmaceutical precautions
Store in a dry place.
Do not store above 25°C.
Keep container tightly closed.
Aurofac 200 MA will remain stable in dried milk or milk replacer powder for 8 weeks. Do not store medicated liquid milk.
Avoid the use of contaminated water and rusty or dirty containers.
General precautions
Chlortetracycline is of low toxicity and side effects are rarely encountered.
If suspected adverse reactions occur treatment should be discontinued.
Wash hands after use.
