Presentation
Cylap vaccine is a liquid oil adjuvanted vaccine containing 2560 to 5120 haemagglutinating units per dose of inactivated viral haemorrhagic disease (VHD) virus.
Uses
For active immunisation to prevent clinical signs and mortality caused by rabbit viral haemorrhagic disease. The onset of immunity is at 21 days after vaccination and the duration of immunity is of 12 months.
Dosage and administration
1 ml by subcutaneous injection. Shake the vial well to obtain a uniform suspension of the vaccine before each administration.
Primary vaccination
Rabbits should be vaccinated at 2½-3 months of age using a single dose. If epizootic conditions make vaccination advisable before the age of 2½ months, the animal should be revaccinated one month after the first inoculation.
Booster vaccination
An annual booster vaccination is recommended.
Contra-indications, warnings, etc
Only healthy rabbits should be vaccinated.
Sick animals or those suspected to be in the incubation period should not be vaccinated.
To avoid severe adverse reactions contraindications must be strictly adhered to. Rabbits are known to be prone to stress related reactions.
The entire contents of the bottle should be used within three hours of the first extraction. Used bottles and unused vaccine must be disposed of by incineration or disinfection.
The vaccine is safe to use in pregnant animals but they should be handled with care. A significant proportion of animals will show palpable reactions which consist of swelling, redness and hair loss. The swelling subsides during 2-3 weeks without further treatment. Some animals have pyrexia which can last for up to 2-3 days.
As with all vaccines occasional hypersensitivity reactions may occur. Immediate, appropriate treatment should be given.
No information is available on the safety and efficacy from the concurrent use of this vaccine with any other. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccines should be administered within 14 days before or after treatment with Cylap.
Do not mix with any other vaccine or immunological product.
Withdrawal period: Zero days.
Keep out of reach of children.
Accidental self-inoculation
To the user
This product contains mineral oil. Accidental injection/self injection may result in severe pain and swelling, particularly if injected into a joint or finger, and in rare cases could result in the loss of the affected finger if prompt medical attention is not given.
If you are accidentally injected with this product, seek prompt medical advice even if only a very small amount is injected and take the package insert with you.
If pain persists for more than 12 hours after medical examination, seek medical advice again.
To the doctor
This product contains mineral oil. Even if small amounts have been injected, accidental injection with this product can cause intense swelling which may, for example, result in ischaemic necrosis and even the loss of a digit. Expert, PROMPT, surgical attention is required and may necessitate early incision and irrigation of the injected area, especially where there is involvement of finger pulp or tendon.
Pharmaceutical precautions
Store and transport refrigerated between +2°C and +8°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
