Uses

Chlortetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Aureomycin Soluble Powder is recommended for oral administration in the treatment of respiratory and systemic infections caused by chlortetracycline-sensitive organisms in chickens and calves.

For oral administration as a soluble powder, to be given in drinking water, or as a drench.

Therapeutic doses of chlortetracycline are for:

Calves:

Treatment should be continued for a period of five to seven days.

To be given as a solution in drinking water by either:-

Adding the contents of a jar (225g) to 90 litres drinking water providing 138 ppm chlortetracycline in the drinking water.

or:-

Adding 3 rounded 5ml teaspoonfuls (600mg chlortetracycline) to 5 litres drinking water providing 120 ppm in the water.

For calves, the product may be given as a drench twice daily at the rate of 12.5g (3 rounded 5 ml teaspoons) per 45kg bodyweight daily, split into two 12-hourly doses in sufficient water to dissolve it. Prepare drench immediately prior to administration.

General precautions

Aureomycin is of low toxicity and side-effects are rarely encountered.

If suspected adverse reactions do occur, treatment should be discontinued.
