Presentation

Sachets containing 300mg Doxycycline Hyclate (equivalent to 260 mg doxycycline active) as a fine, granular, light yellow to yellow, odourless powder for oral administration to pigeons and cage birds.

Uses

For the treatment of ornithosis and psittacosis as well as infections of the respiratory tract and eyes caused by Chlamydia psittaci or Mycoplasma in pigeons and cage birds.

Dosage and administration

The dosage of doxycycline hyclate in birds is 15mg/kg bodyweight daily. Dissolve 1 sachet in 2 litres of deionised or distilled water for pigeons and cage birds. For birds with low daily water intake, such as parakeets, 1 sachet of Ornicure should be dissolved in 0.5 litres of water.

An Ornicure treatment normally lasts 5 days. In case of severe infections, the treatment should be prolonged.

During the racing season, Ornicure can be used prophylactically during 2 consecutive days out of 7 weekly.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

Administer a fresh solution of Ornicure each day.

Treated birds should not be allowed to drink from other sources during treatment.

Mineral salts, citric acid, dairy and ferrous products can all negatively affect doxcycline absorption. In order to avoid this it is best to use deionised or distilled water to dissolve Ornicure.

Any medicated water which is not consumed within 24 hours should be discarded and replaced with a fresh solution each day.

The use of Ornicure should be avoided during reproduction.

Ornicure may be given to young birds.

It is advisable not to participate at races during treatment of the pigeons.
