Presentation

An inactivated vaccine against rabies, presented as a clear colourless liquid.

An aluminium hydroxide adjuvant is used. Each 1ml dose contains 1IU rabies virus glycoproteins.

Uses

For the active immunisation of dogs and cats to reduce mortality and clinical signs due to rabies infection.

Immunity has been demonstrated 1 month after vaccination and has been shown to persist up to the next re-vaccination dose.

Dosage and administration

Inject one 1 ml dose subcutaneously, according to the following schedule:

Dogs and cats

Minimum age at vaccination: 3 months.

Booster vaccination should be given every two years.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

For animal treatment only.

Do not vaccinate unhealthy animals.

No information is available on the safety and efficacy from the concurrent use of this vaccine with any other. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccine should be administered within 14 days before or after vaccination with RABISIN.

Vaccination may sometimes induce a local reaction, as a small nodule at the injection site (usually 2-3cm diameter, persisting up to 10-15 days). Vaccination may exceptionally induce an anaphylactoid (hypersensitivity) reaction. In such a case, symptomatic treatment should be provided.

Pharmaceutical precautions

Store and transport at +2°C to +8°C (in a refrigerator), protected from light.

Do not freeze.

Do not mix with any other vaccine or immunological product.

Keep out of reach of children.

Any unused product or waste material should be disposed of in accordance with national requirements.

Legal category

POM-V

Packaging Quantities

Single dose vial and 10 x single dose vials.

Further information

Maternally derived specific antibodies can interfere with an active immune response to vaccination. This should be taken into account when planning the timing of vaccination of young animals.

RABISIN has been shown safe in queens that had been vaccinated before pregnancy and re-vaccinated around the 6th week of gestation. Such studies have not been carried out in other species, but on the basis of extensive field experience, RABISIN could be expected to be safe in pregnant animals.
