Presentation

Pink-coloured, scored, bolus-shaped tablets. Each tablet contains 1.0 g sulphadiazine, 200 mg trimethoprim and amaranth dye (E123) 0.016% w/w.

Uses

STRINACIN II is primarily indicated for the treatment of bacterial scours, but may also be used for the treatment of acute salmonellosis and bacterial pneumonia in calves.

Dosage and administration

Calves

By oral administration. STRINACIN II tablets may be administered whole, by hand or balling gun, or may be dispersed in about 300ml water to be used as an oral drench. The daily dose is one tablet per 40 kg (90 lb) bodyweight, to provide 30 mg of combined active ingredients per kg bodyweight daily. Treatment should be repeated daily until two days after the symptoms have resolved, but in cases of salmonellosis and bacterial pneumonia treatment should be continued for five consecutive days.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

STRINACIN II should not be used in animals with functionally mature rumens.

Protective gloves should be worn to avoid skin sensitization, which may occur when crushing the bolus of this product.

Wash hands after use.

Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes. If contact occurs, wash affected area with copious amounts of water. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.

Withdrawal periods

Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during treatment. Calves may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 15 days from the last treatment.

Pharmaceutical precautions

Store in a dry place. Do not store above 25°C. Protect from light.

Keep out of reach of children.

Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materials derived from such veterinary medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.
