Framomycin 15% Injection
Contra-indications, warnings, etc
Do not administer by the intravenous route. For intramuscular use only. Do not administer to animals known to be allergic to framycetin or other Streptomyces produced aminoglycosides (e.g. streptomycin, gentamycin, kanamycin or neomycin). Cephalosporins may potentiate the toxicity of the aminoglycosides and should not be used concurrently. Framycetin can be nephrotoxic and ototoxic and the recommended dose and dosage range should not be exceeded. The drug is excreted in the urine and should, therefore, be used with caution in patients with compromised renal function. Patients' water intake should not be restricted during treatment. The aminoglycosides can cause a fall in calcium levels; the concomitant use of calcium borogluconate infusion at the time of parturition may be advisable.
Allergy (hypersensitivity) to framycetin containing products can lead to cross reactions with those products containing other Streptomyces produced aminoglycosides.
Care should be taken to avoid accidental self injection.
Wash hands after use.
Withdrawal period
Meat – Animals must not be slaughtered for human consumption during treatment. Cattle may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 122 days from the last treatment.
Milk – Milk must not be taken for human consumption during treatment. Milk may be taken for human consumption only after 60 hours from the last treatment. When used in conjunction with intramammary preparations of withdrawal periods greater than 60 hours, the longer of the two milk withdrawal periods must apply.
