Presentation

A feed premix containing 5% amoxycillin for incorporation into pig feed.

The amoxycillin in Stabox has been coated by a special process which improves stability during the manufacture and storage of pig feed (meal and pellets).

Uses

For the control of diseases caused by Streptococcus suis in weaned piglets.

Dosage and administration

15 mg of amoxycillin per kg bodyweight daily for 14 consecutive days. This dosage may be achieved by the addition of:

1) 400 ppm or 8 kg Stabox 5% Premix per tonne of feed in starter feed.

2) 300 ppm or 6 kg Stabox 5% Premix per tonne of feed in feed intended for piglets older than 6 weeks.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc

When handling the product, skin contact should be avoided. Adequate measures must be taken to avoid creating dust when incorporating the product into feed. Use a respirator/dust mask which complies with at least European Standard EN 149 FFP1 and wear overalls, impervious gloves and safety glasses. Wash exposed skin after use.

Do not smoke or eat during use.

Penicillins and cephalosporins may cause hypersensitivity (allergy) following injection, inhalation, ingestion or skin contact. Hypersensitivity to penicillins may lead to cross-reactions to cephalosporins and vice versa. Allergic reactions to these substances may occasionally be serious.

1) Do not handle this product if you know you are sensitised or if you have been advised not to work with such preparations.

2) Handle this product with great care to avoid exposure, taking all recommended precautions.

3) If you develop symptoms following exposure such as skin rash, you should seek medical advice and show the doctor this warning. Swelling of the face, lips or eyes or difficulty with breathing are more serious symptoms and require urgent medical attention.

For animal treatment only.

Withdrawal period

Pigs intended for human consumption may only be slaughtered after 4 days from the last administration of Stabox.

Pharmaceutical precautions

The product should be stored in its original packaging and kept at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Once incorporated into animal feed (meal/pellets), the amoxycillin in Stabox remains stable for over 180 days. To ensure thorough dispersion the product should first be mixed with a suitable quantity of feed before incorporation in the final mix.

In pelleting, the usual conditions should be respected, i.e. temperatures not exceeding 80°C, humidity of around 18% and pressure of about 10 bars.

Do not contaminate water by direct application or by the improper disposal of drug containers. Drug containers and any residual contents should be disposed of safely e.g. by burying in waste ground away from water courses or incinerated.
